Maliba

from £11.00

Maliba is a naturally processed Ugandan coffee with 48 hours of anaerobic fermentation, bringing a rich, fruit-laced depth to the cup. We tasted rum & raisin, chocolate, and rose—with a smooth, grown-up sweetness that lingers. It even reminded us of those purple Quality Streets—all chocolate, caramel, and nostalgic indulgence. Roasted for all brew methods, it’s a comforting and complex cup with a character all its own.

Details

  • Country: Uganda

  • Region: Rwenzori Mountains

  • Farm: Smallholder producers via Agri Evolve

  • Producer: Agri Evolve

  • Varietals: SL14, SL28 (plus older regional landrace varieties)

  • Process: Natural with anaerobic fermentation (48 hrs)

  • Tasting Notes: Rum & Raisin, Chocolate, Rose

  • Roast Style: Omni-roast (suited to all brew methods)

The Producer

Sourced through Agri Evolve, this lot comes from smallholder farmers in the Maliba area of the Rwenzori foothills, many cultivating coffee well above 1,600m on just 1–2 acres of land. Agri Evolve’s buying centre in Maliba offers local access to fair pricing and quality control, with cherries collected daily and trucked to Nyabirongo for processing.

There, ripe cherries are sealed in sacks for 48 hours of anaerobic fermentation, before being dried on raised beds. The result is a cup with more depth and character than the region’s typical naturals—preserving sweetness but layering in savoury, winey undertones and gentle florals.

Shipping & Handling

We roast and dispatch orders twice a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

  • Place your order by midnight on Monday for Tuesday dispatch.

  • Place your order by midnight on Wednesday for Thursday dispatch.

Orders received after these times will be sent on the next available dispatch day.
